“The case for innovation is compelling, but recognition alone is not enough. The challenge is to move from talk to effective action. What and why

The structure of the economy has changed and management has not

The economy is broken, stalling business growth. Forty years of unremitting pursuit of efficiency, principally in supply chains, and near term ‘shareholder value’ have changed business dynamics. The result is widespread imbalances between supply and demand. This structural imbalance renders established practices, economic development policies and education curricula functionally obsolescent. As a result, business leaders are struggling to find growth and too little of a practical nature is being done to reignite sustainable, profitable growth. Developing a culture of innovation is increasingly recognized as a key force for turning around business today.

An accelerator is needed to find answers that work – successful approaches to stimulate profitable growth. Innovation is the presumptive universal answer to future growth, but few organizations have realized its expected benefits. The Institute for Intrapreneurship (The Institute) was formed to deliver answers and impact. Coalescing interests and resources of leaders from business, academia and government, The Institute develops ways to make innovation work. While working within companies creating structures and processes that drive sustainable innovation, the Institute will help:

  • Accelerate growth in established enterprises
  • Create new jobs
  • Enable the “internal entrepreneur” to collaborate
  • Enable businesses to build infrastructure, processes and cultures required to monetize innovation
  • Train current and future leaders in the principles and practices of Intrapreneurship

‘Impact’ is the objective and opportunity

The case for innovation is compelling, but recognition alone is not enough. The challenge is to move from talk to effective action. The major responsibility of The Institute is to bring together the research of thought leaders, the vision of innovators, and the experience of operators to pioneer answers that impact the ability for companies to plan and execute innovation initiatives. The need is for business, academia, and policy interests to bring brand, intellectual property, research and resources to focus explicitly on one question: What must be true for existing businesses to develop and sustain profitable innovation-based growth in a changed economy?
